The Youth Group at Little Flower | Ministry in Focus

PACK stands for “People Aiming for Christ’s Kingdom” and is the high school ministry of Little Flower Parish, open to all teenagers from the ninth through twelfth grades.

During the school year, we generally meet most Sundays at 5 PM. The agendas for our meetings vary greatly but usually incorporate prayer, catechesis, and fun games. Our activities are not limited to Sunday nights, however. We host a variety of social events such as bowling nights, put on an annual Passion Play during Lent, and go on an adoration pilgrimage each Holy Thursday.

We also attend the annual Diocesan Youth Conference and Camp Out, which are coordinated by the Diocesan Office of Youth and a group of high school students known as the Youth Council. These events gather together youth from throughout the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee for engaging talks, Eucharistic adoration, Mass, and other fun activities. The theme of the 2018 Youth Conference was “Chosen,” and Sr. Miriam James, SOLT, reminded the teenagers that they are called by God for a life of service.

This summer, the youth have been engaged in a variety of activities and service projects. Nancy Cruz, who is entering her senior year this August, attended the Christian Leadership Institute in early June. This annual event brings together youth leaders from throughout the Diocese for a week of prayerful workshops, giving the teens the tools to be leaders in their parish. As Nancy says, “CLI opened my eyes to how a team should work and how it’s important for us to be leaders and to be able to listen to others while in a leadership position. It also taught us how important it is to have young leaders in the young Church.

Last week, PACK members were involved in leading our annual Vacation Bible School, serving as role models of faith for younger children. Every afternoon, the youth group met for PACK week, a series of fun events including Bible on the Beach, a movie night, pizza, ice cream, and water balloons. From July 6-8, twelve of our teenagers will be attending the Steubenville Conference in Atlanta along with 3000 other youth from the Southeast.

Much like our Diocesan Youth Conference, the weekend is filled with dynamic talks from inspiring Catholic speakers such as Fr. Mike Schmitz, daily Mass, praise and worship music, and Eucharistic adoration. Please pray for our youth as we travel north!
