Children not baptized as infants and who have attained the use of reason and are of catechetical age are to be prepared for the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist according to the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults [RCIA, #252].
Order of Christian Initiation for Children (OCIC) - Formerly RCIC
The Christian initiation of these children must be adapted both to their growth in faith and to the catechetical instruction they will receive. This process may take several years. (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults #253)
Parents should be actively engaged in this process and the children/youth should have a peer group and participate in the parish preparation for the sacraments.
These children/youth are to receive Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist in that order in one ceremony, preferably at the Easter Vigil, together with the older catechumens [RCIA, National Statutes, 18].
Children who have attained the use of reason and are of catechetical age and whose baptism in another Christian faith is recognized by the Catholic Church are considered candidates. They are to be confirmed and receive their first Holy Communion at the Mass in which they are received into full communion.
